Editor’s Note: Hey guys! We’ve got something special for you today, and it’s a Honeymoon Spotlight Series! At BellaNaija Weddings, we don’t just celebrate ‘The Big Day’, we’re just as obsessed with what comes after.
Our Honeymoon Spotlight Series takes you inside the heartwarming, adventurous, and sometimes unexpected journeys newlyweds embark on after saying “I do.” We ask couples to share how they planned their honeymoon, what made it truly special, and the little lessons they picked up along the way. From budgeting and destination choices to unforgettable memories, these stories are filled with inspiration for anyone dreaming of the perfect post-wedding escape.
In this feature, we spoke with Mr. & Mrs. Stephens, who chose Ghana as their honeymoon destination. Planned by Tourbirth, their trip was the perfect balance of adventure, romance, relaxation, and unforgettable memories. Let’s get into their experience! 😍
How far in advance did you start planning your honeymoon?
We prioritized our honeymoon over our wedding, viewing it as a reward for the expenses and effort of hosting a Nigerian wedding. We began planning it as soon as we were sure we’d be getting married.
What was your honeymoon budget, and did you stick to it?
We had an open budget for the honeymoon, as long as the package matched our preferences.
Why did you choose this honeymoon destination?
We chose our honeymoon destination after ruling out our first choice due to visa complications and the second due to unfavourable weather, ultimately settling for a more convenient option.
How did you balance wedding expenses with planning a memorable honeymoon?
Our honeymoon was our top priority and was planned way before many other items on the wedding to-do list. We made sure of that.
Any unexpected challenges during the trip (delays, weather, or bookings)? How did you handle it, and how do you think you could have avoided it?
Hmmm…. TourBirth (Our Agent for the trip) made sure we had no single discomfort whatsoever so all that was practically handled by them. We didn’t have to stress about anything at all.
What’s one thing you’ve discovered about each other during the honeymoon?
During our honeymoon, we discovered how adventurous and daring we both are.
What’s one must-have item you feel every couple should pack on their honeymoon?
We would recommend that couples pack a high-quality camera or a smartphone with a very good camera for their honeymoon trip to capture memorable moments they’ll want to look back on later.
If you could relive one day of the honeymoon, which would it be and why?
Every single day! Because we enjoyed every moment.
What advice would you give to newlyweds about planning the perfect honeymoon?
We advise newlyweds to start planning early, discuss expectations during this trip and budget for the trip, choose a destination that fits their interests and finances, and book accommodations and transportation in advance—or better yet, use a tour agent like we did.
How did the honeymoon deepen your connection as a couple?
Our honeymoon gave us the chance to slow down, really connect, and enjoy each other’s company without the constant rush and noise of daily life in Lagos. It felt like the world faded away, leaving just the two of us.
Planned by Tourbirth, the Stephens’ honeymoon was more than just a getaway. It was a beautiful reminder that it’s not only about the destination, but about cherishing every step of the journey together. From navigating budgeting concerns to soaking in picture-perfect moments and strengthening their bond, their experience speaks to the heart of what a honeymoon should be. Here’s to more couples embracing love, laughter, and soft-life escapes — just like this.
