The way Instagram connects people is truly beautiful to see. Once again, it brought Dorcas and Tobi across each other’s paths, and with just one post and one follow, a beautiful love story was set in motion.
They discovered they had so much in common and, after months of being online buddies, they eventually met in person. What started as a simple connection on social media blossomed into something much more, and now, it’s all love in the air as they say ‘I do’ in a magical white wedding ceremony. Set against a beautiful outdoor backdrop, Dorcas and Tobi exchanged their vows in the presence of their friends, family and loved ones. From an Instagram follow to saying “I do,” their journey is such a sweet reminder that sometimes, love really can find you in the most unexpected places. 😍

Their love story as shared by Dorcas:
People often ask us how we met, and honestly, Instagram deserves all the credit. Tobi is a man of many talents, while Dorcas is a fashion and career baddie her words… well, maybe both of ours. One of Tobi’s many talents is expressing himself through rap. One day, he released a verse about the pressure people put on themselves on wanting success early in life; the feeling that you should have life completely figured out by age 25. The video unexpectedly went viral, and it resonated with thousands of people, including me, who had just turned 25 and was quietly battling those same overwhelming feelings. I followed Tobi on Instagram, and he followed me back.
Out of all the new followers that day, somehow, I was the one who caught his attention. Neither of us knew it then, but one follow was about to change both of our lives. This is giving romcom vibes LOL! Some time later, I posted about feeling burnt out from work, and Tobi replied to my story. What started as one simple conversation quickly became many. For five months, we chatted on and off, getting to know each other one message at a time. There wasn’t any pressure or grand plan. We simply enjoyed chatting with each other. Before we strangers knew it, hours had become days, and days had become months. We decided it was time to finally meet in person. Our first date was at Godaif Village in Ikoyi, and I was late! Very late!
Dorcas came with that lovely bridal glow 😍

If you know Tobi, you know punctuality is practically one of his love languages. By the time I arrived, he had almost convinced himself the evening was already a disaster. But that notwithstanding, the conversation came so naturally that it felt like we’d known each other forever. It didn’t feel like two strangers meeting for the first time. It felt like two people continuing a conversation they’d somehow started long before that evening. Maybe five months of chatting had something to do with it, or maybe it was just meant to be. Either way, we talked for so long that we became the last people left in the restaurant. The staff eventually had to come over and politely ask us to leave because they wanted to close.
By our second date at Pitstop, history repeated itself. We talked until closing time. Our third date at Erik Kayser? Exactly the same. At this point, we started wondering whether restaurants had a secret group chat warning each other about US. By then, we had known each other for eight months and had been intentionally dating for three. After another beautiful date at Sketch, Tobi suggested we hop in his car for a drive around. As we drove and reflected on everything we had experienced together, Tobi asked the question that had been on his heart all along, “Dorcas, will you be my girlfriend?”
All set and ready to say “I do”

Now, let’s be honest…I had to do a little shakara (at least a little). Before the night was over, I said yes. Just like that, the adventure officially began. About a year into our relationship came what we thought would be our biggest challenge. I moved to the UK for my Master’s degree, and neither of us knew what long distance would do to us. Tobi called it our litmus test: “It’ll either make us or break us. I welcome it” Thankfully, it made us. In fact, it brought us closer than we ever imagined. We didn’t just remain boyfriend and girlfriend, but we became genuine friends. Best friends.
We talked for hours every single day, watched movies together over Zoom, played games online, went on virtual dinner dates, and FaceTimed each other from restaurants. We somehow found ways to create memories despite living in different countries. Distance didn’t weaken our relationship; it deepened it.
After a year without seeing each other in person, Tobi secretly boarded a flight to England and showed up unannounced at my doorstep. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. Just two days later, he surprised me again with a trip to Montenegro with friends. Between the breathtaking mountains, crystal-clear waters, and endless laughter, we returned even more certain that we wanted to spend forever together.
Let’s check out the dapper groom!

Around that same time, life threw us another surprise. Tobi lost his job in Nigeria (Booo!). What looked like a setback became the push Tobi needed to relocate to the UK. No five-year plan, just faith and conviction. Then came December 2024; during a prayer session at Reboot Camp, Tobi was praying about getting a new job and passing his Solicitors Qualifying Exams. Instead, he felt God saying, you’re proposing this year. Confused, his response was essentially, “God, can we focus on the prayer points, please?” But the answer came again, “In fact, you’ll propose no later than April 2025.” Done
A few months later, everything started falling perfectly into place. Tobi passed his exams, got admitted as a Solicitor in England & Wales, and got a new job. He told me we were going on a weekend away to celebrate. He is the holiday planner in this relationship, and as usual, he planned everything. I suspected absolutely nothing, as I wanted to just show up and enjoy Tobi’s money. The destination was Doncaster. I was expecting a relaxing getaway, while Tobi’s actual plan was to change both of our lives forever. In the middle of what I thought was just another beautiful trip together, Tobi got down on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me?”

After what can only be described as a tsunami of emotions, I found my voice and said ‘yes’. The rest, as they say, is history. We had our civil wedding in Islington, London, because somehow, Tobi had to find a way to involve Arsenal in our story. Then we celebrated with our family and friends in Lagos, surrounded by the people who had prayed for us, cheered us on, and loved us every step of the way.
Looking back, it’s funny to think that it all started with rap bars on Instagram, and ended with wedding bands in real life.. Who knew that one conversation would become a lifetime of conversations? And the best part? Our story is only just beginning.
