Weddings are about love in its purest form, and this stunning styled shoot by Lucas Ugo is a beautiful reminder for couples to hold onto the real essence of the ceremony, beyond the performance.
Backdropped by the beautiful views of Obudu Cattle Ranch, this vintage white wedding shoot unfolded beautifully. The details infused into the earthy looks speak of how little is needed to birth something truly extraordinary. Its aim in general is to show that love stories should be honoured with meaning, not to satisfy societal constructs of how conventional weddings should look, but because it is true to the actual people living in it.
How the photographer describes the shoot:
THE NATURE OF US
Reimagining the Future of Wedding Experiences
We didn’t go to Obudu to create a dramatic wedding shoot. We went to see what would happen if we stripped things back. The landscape did most of the directing. The wind decided how the fabric moved. The mountains created space between moments. Nothing felt rushed or overbuilt. The couple weren’t styled to dominate the environment; rather, they were styled to belong to it. She began in softness: baby’s breath woven into her Afro, a quiet nod to natural beauty without over-ornamentation. In Nigeria, a bride is likened to a flower, which is plucked. The scattered baby breaths on her hair symbolise the flower she is, but even more, the spread out Afro symbolizes a tree. The growth of the family starts with the man, but is executed by the woman. The white ceremony look followed the same thinking; an ivory structured Victorian-inspired gown paired with a natural rustic bouquet that was gathered, not manufactured. It wasn’t about embellishment. It was about texture. Earth. Intention. The dress had pleats at the upper bodice joining at the centre, symbolizing the unity of two hearts into one. The groom’s outfit was unconventional yet, in total alignment with hers. Not the blacks. But the warm tones put together. This editorial is a response to where weddings are headed. Bigger isn’t always better. Louder isn’t always meaningful. We wanted to explore what weddings look like when they are designed from alignment instead of pressure. When couples choose presence over performance, the experience becomes unforgettable, not because it’s grand, but because it’s true.
