Here’s how “Natural Glam” Brides Tomisin & Anita Chose their Wedding Makeup Artists

If you thought finding your wedding dress is all there is to the perfect bridal look, then you will be surprised to find out that choosing a bridal makeup that will compliment your dress is equally a major task. Now, after you have decided on the look you hope to achieve, selecting the most ideal makeup artist becomes the next big question.
With so many makeup artists constantly popping up on your Instagram feed, how then do you find the makeup artist that gets you and what you want?

Coincidentally, both brides opted for nude lips and an overall clean look. Tomisin and Anita share how they chose their ideal makeup artists.

How did you select your makeup artist?

I was going through Instagram and found Tifara Makeovers. What drew me to her was how well she worked with darker skin tones and that was key for me. I didn’t want a caked or mismatched face and from her work, I noticed she didn’t do that. And hey, she was also within my budget (major factor).
Tomisin
I have always known the makeup artist (Flawless Faces by Jane) I was going to use, well I noticed that most of her works were very natural looking and regardless of the face structure and shape, she managed to achieve great natural looks. Then my bridal stylist (Wardrobe Manager) confirmed her

Did you seek the views of friends or family on your choice?

Yes, I ran everything by my sister, my maid of honour and my bridesmaids.
Tomisin
No, I did not.
Anita

Did your budget by anyway affect how you picked your makeup artist?

Of course, I can’t pay what I don’t have, lol.
Tomisin
No, it did not.
Anita

Can you share your makeup budget?

I wanted to remain under ₦200,000 for both days, including a touch-up and complimentary makeup for my mum.
Tomisin
Lol.. my budget was around ₦150,000.

When you finally chose your makeup artist, did you have a trial?

We only had a foundation matching session beforehand.
Tomisin
Oh yes, I did! I believe it is a necessity.
Anita

What were you most particular about in your makeup?

Ohhh, skin work! I wanted my makeup to be smooth and also match my brown skin closely and be well blended. It had to look like a second skin. It also had to be light, that was really important to me.
Tomisin
My eyebrows!! and I also wanted to look like myself.

Some brides say the natural makeup looks good on camera or in person, did your makeup fulfill both for them?

Pictures will always look better because of editing but it definitely fulfilled both for me.
Tomisin
Of course!! It definitely fulfilled both of them.
Anita

Were you at any point, tempted to add a pop of colour to your makeup?

Well, only for my traditional engagement ceremony. Definitely not for the white wedding.
Tomisin
No, not at all.
Anita

When you saw your face after the session, what was your reaction?

Extremely pleased! I think I even said “Yassss!”
Tomisin
I loved it and I was very pleased!
