Dupe & Joel Found Love in NYSC Camp! Now, It’s the #JDlovestory25

Imagine thinking, “Surely they can’t post me to this state for NYSC service”, and the universe, in fact, works its way, and they post you right there! On that note, Dupe and Joel’s love story would absolutely wow you!

It all started when the lovebirds met at the NYSC camp in Katsina state. By some divine coincidence, they both applied to the same state. They were so convinced that, because of the insurgency, they wouldn’t be posted to the North. That was not the case! Instead, that was exactly what happened! Fate was weaving its magic in every way possible to bring these two together. When they got to camp, they met and connected on a deeper level. Months later, they were already dating.

Now the lovebirds have tied the knot, and we are super pumped! They had a glamorous Yoruba traditional wedding where love, culture and style aligned beautifully. They also had a Nikkah ceremony, and it was such a wholesome celebration. This is indeed a love written in the stars, and we couldn’t be more excited for the plot twist that brought them their forever. 😍

Enjoy their wedding photos and love story below:

Their love story, as shared by Joel:

We finished university in different years — 2016 and 2019. Different seasons of life, different journeys. Yet, unknown to us, God was already aligning our paths. When it was time for NYSC, we both made the same decision for the same reason. We chose Borno State, fully convinced that the security situation would make it impossible for NYSC to post us there. We were wrong. Instead, we were both routed to the Katsina camp — without knowing that this unexpected redirection would become the beginning of our forever. She arrived on the 5th of November 2019. I arrived on the 6th.

On that day in camp, among unfamiliar faces and new surroundings, our paths crossed quietly. I noticed a group of girls, walked up and asked to take a picture. She chose not to be in it and offered to take the photo instead. Neither of us knew it then, but that brief moment would become our first meeting. Later that evening, during the general camp gathering, we met again. A simple question — “Didn’t we see each other this morning?” — turned into a conversation that felt surprisingly familiar. As we talked, we realized we had mutual connections. She knew my younger brother — they attended the same university. We shared several friends. What felt random began to feel intentional. Throughout camp, our friendship grew naturally. Conversations became easier. Laughter became frequent. Somewhere between the routines of camp life, I jokingly said she would be my girlfriend. She laughed, not realizing I was already serious.

After camp ended, we stayed in touch — and then something remarkable happened. From the day we met, not a single day has passed without us speaking. In December, I asked her to be my girlfriend. On January 10th, she said yes. What followed was growth, patience, and intentional love. What began as a chance meeting in NYSC camp became a friendship. Friendship turned into love. Love matured into commitment. And on November 29th, we became husband and wife. Looking back together now, we see God’s hand in every detail — in the state we never expected to be posted to, in the picture she refused to be in, in the conversation that changed everything. NYSC was meant to be a year of service. For us, it became the beginning of a lifetime.
