At the University of Cape Coast, when the world felt like a blur of lectures, assignments, and campus hustle, there were two constants: Me and him. Not yet lovers, but so much more than strangers—just friends. We met like most campus friendships do: a casual exchange, a shared class, and before you knew it, we were laughing over inside jokes and giving each other notes for missed lectures. For him, though, it was different. From the moment he met me, he knew there was something more than just a friendship brewing. But did he tell me? Absolutely not. Instead, he kept his feelings locked away tighter than his friends’ gossip about it. “Don’t tell her,” he’d warn them, “it’s better this way.” His friends probably grew tired of keeping the secret, but he wasn’t budging. He knew that sometimes, friendship had to come first.

And while I had no idea, I found solace in his company. He became the guy I called when things went south. He patiently listened as I spilled my troubles, never once letting the weight of my heartache make him falter. Then life happened. We left school and lost contact. But it appears he always had me in mind. We reconnected and rekindled the flames of friendship.
I felt safe in his company. It was his kindness, patience, the way he’d make sure I was okay—he’d “are you okay?” my ass to death 😂😂—it wasn’t just friendship rekindled. It was love, disguised as friendship, as a steady presence in my life. At this point he was like a good song I never wanted to stop listening to and I love a good song.

From there, everything changed. From dates to dinners, movies at the cinemas, walks by the beach—our lives effortlessly intertwined in a way that felt as natural as breathing. But it was never just about the grand gestures or fancy dinners. It was the quiet moments, the ones where you could sit together in silence, enjoying each other’s company, knowing you didn’t need anything more than that. Our love, like the perfect balance of fire and ice, became something beautiful. He kept me grounded when my dreams felt unattainable and I on the other hand made him laugh when his practicality became too serious and was there for him through his dark days. We were two sides of the same coin—perfectly complementing each other in every way.
