How important was having a honeymoon to you both, and why?
Our honeymoon was incredibly important to us because, after months of planning and the emotion of our wedding day, we wanted a moment where everything could slow down and it could simply be the two of us. The wedding was a beautiful celebration surrounded by our family and friends, but the honeymoon felt like the beginning of our life together as husband and wife. It gave us the opportunity to step away from the excitement, be present with each other and properly take in the significance of becoming Mr and Mrs Omoragbon. For us, it wasn’t simply a holiday. It was the first chapter of our “ever after.”

Tell us about your honeymoon destination. Why did you choose this location?
We chose Shangri-La Le Touessrok in Mauritius because we wanted somewhere that felt truly special, somewhere beautiful, romantic and peaceful but still with enough character and experiences for us to explore together.
Mauritius felt like the perfect combination of luxury, natural beauty, culture and romance. After the elegance and grandeur of our wedding at Hedsor House, we loved the idea of contrasting that with the tropical beauty of the Indian Ocean.
There was also something incredibly fitting about travelling somewhere surrounded by turquoise water, beautiful landscapes and incredible sunsets to begin this next chapter of our marriage.
What was one thing about the destination that surprised you the most?
The thing that surprised us most was just how beautiful and immersive Mauritius felt in person.
You can see beautiful photographs of Mauritius, but being there is completely different. The colours of the ocean, the mountains, the sunsets and the atmosphere were even more striking than we imagined.
We were also surprised by how effortlessly Mauritius combines a sense of seclusion and tranquillity with culture and things to explore. It never felt like we had to choose between relaxing and experiencing something new.

Did the honeymoon help you bond better as newlyweds? And how?
Definitely. I think the biggest thing was simply having uninterrupted time together.
Our wedding day was incredible, but it goes by so quickly. The honeymoon gave us the opportunity to actually pause and process everything…we’re married! We could talk, laugh, explore, eat, relax and experience new things together without having to worry about schedules or entertaining anyone else.
It also reminded us that marriage isn’t just about the big milestones. It’s the little moments, sitting together overlooking the ocean, sharing a drink, laughing about something that happened that day, or experiencing something new together, that become some of your favourite memories.

How did you both spend your days? Were you more into exploring the destination, relaxing, trying new foods, or a mix of everything?
It was definitely a mix of everything.
We wanted a honeymoon where we could relax without being bored. Some days were all about the resort, enjoying the beach, taking in the views, having long meals and simply doing nothing.
But we also wanted some adventure, which is where the helicopter experience came in. Flying over Mauritius and seeing the island from above was one of the highlights of the trip.
And, of course, food was a big part of the experience. We enjoyed trying different dishes, having leisurely meals and making the most of the resort’s dining experiences.
Ultimately, we didn’t want to overplan the honeymoon. We left room for spontaneity, which I think made it even more enjoyable.

What would you say is the best way to preserve the memories created during your honeymoon?
Take lots of photos and videos, but don’t experience the honeymoon entirely through your phone.
We tried to capture the big moments, like the helicopter flight, but also the little details: the champagne waiting in the room, the welcome note, the view from our room, the meals and those quiet moments together.
I’d also say print some of your favourite photographs. Digital photos are great, but there’s something special about having physical photographs that you can look back on years later.
And perhaps most importantly, write down the memories while they’re still fresh. Years from now, you may not remember exactly what day something happened, but you’ll remember how you felt.

What advice would you give newlyweds who are also planning their honeymoon?
Don’t feel pressured to make your honeymoon look like anyone else’s.
Choose somewhere that reflects you as a couple. If you want adventure, build adventure into it. If you want complete relaxation, don’t feel guilty about spending days doing absolutely nothing.
Also, don’t underestimate the value of giving yourselves some unplanned time. You don’t need an itinerary for every day. Some of our favourite moments came from simply enjoying where we were and enjoying each other’s company.
Finally, make the honeymoon about the marriage, not just the destination. The hotel, the beaches, the excursions and the food are wonderful, but ultimately the most special part was experiencing all of it together, for the first time as husband and wife. ❤️
