How did you both meet, and what were your first impressions of each other?
Kiky: We both have different stories of how we met. I won an award in university for “face of dentistry”, and he was styling me for the cover of the magazine. We met in a way that felt very natural and effortless, and from the beginning, there was a sense of ease between us. My first impression of him was how calm, intelligent, confident, genuine, intentional, and let’s not forget STYLISH he was.
Akin: Ours is a union that really goes through all the phases. 😅 We met in medical school, and there was a genuine connection between us. We started out as friends, so the foundation of our love is built on real friendship. We were friends first. 😅 Our friendship grew into a relationship years later, and we’re here now. The fact that we were made for each other became crystal clear as the days went on, and I can’t imagine a life without her. My first impression of her was how much I admired her warmth and bubbly energy. She struck me as an incredibly gorgeous and stylish young lady, and I knew then that I wanted to know a lot more about her.

Tell us about your outfits. What inspired your looks for the day?
For our Civil Wedding Style journey, three words came to mind: ‘Timeless, Stylish, Classic’. We wanted to create looks that were both classic and contemporary, creating a perfect mix of both elements very intentionally. Akin has always championed wearing Nigerian, and this wasn’t going to be any different. Our First Look was exactly that, striking and classic on first glance, however the real work was in the details .. Akin’s suit had intentionality in every detail, from the Dior inspired bow tie with an unconventional twist, to the pleats on the shirt, the unconventional shape of the cummerbund with pleats and buttons, and a perfectly tailored ivory tuxedo from “Deji & Kola” paired with Christian Louboutin shoes.

For Akin’s second look, a question needed answering: what do you create for a man who has worn every type of suit you can think about?
We decided on creating a timeless civil look that is as artistic as it is appropriate for a civil wedding (The Artistic reference was why it was shot in an Art Gallery), and a Full Canvas Couture piece of an unfinished but finished suit was the answer, also by “Deji & Kola” and styled by The Style Infidel. Akin’s Third Look was a refreshing take, an ode to a Modern Groom with more daring and experimental elements. Orange Culture was behind this look, and it was as colourful as it was intentional.
Kiky’s First look was a perfect blend of vintage and contemporary elements. She wanted something that felt timeless, refined, and true to her style. Her look was inspired by vintage Dior silhouettes with a touch of elegance clean lines, soft glam, and pieces that felt effortlessly beautiful. Her Mazelle Bridal outfit had intricate draping of the skirt, an intentional cut of the bodice and the styling with the hat and the Manolo Blahnik shoes.
Her second look embodied her personality perfectly, colourful, warm, bubbly. Her dress featured a rose at the back, also an art form in its own place. The outfit was by Mide World, and her Third look was her bridal robe that also embodied effortless elegance and poise for a stylish bride that she is.
How did you both feel walking into this new phase together?
Kiky: It felt peaceful, grounding, and full of certainty. There was so much love in that moment, but also a quiet confidence that this is exactly where I’m meant to be. It wasn’t overwhelming; it was calm, emotional, intentional, and deeply meaningful. Truly a dream come true.
Akin: I feel the word that encapsulates this phase for me is Joy! Our intimate Civil Ceremony, surrounded by family and close friends, was the perfect atmosphere to celebrate a love that is true and beautiful.

What are you most excited about in this new chapter?
Kiky: I am most excited about building a life together, growing, creating memories, making babies
and supporting each other through every season. Just doing life side by side and becoming even more of a team.
Akin: We’ve been relishing the entire experience, and it’s been the most amazing journey so far, from the proposal to the introduction and now the civil ceremony, and beyond anything else, I am most excited about having this once-in-a-lifetime experience with the love of my life.
