Distance Had Nothing on Kanyinsola & Chijioke’s Sweet Love!

Absence, as they say, makes the heart grow fonder. In that distance birthed during the COVID-19 pandemic, college mates Kanyinsola and Chijioke realised how deep their feelings for each other actually were, leading them to a forever kind of love.

They both attended Howard University, and their paths kept intertwining. They shared lots of common interests and friendships. As expected, their own bond began to grow, and it continued to blossom as the days went by. Unfortunately for the lovebirds, they had to stay apart from each other because of the pandemic, but it was rather a blessing in disguise. That testing period only brought their hearts even closer and strengthened their relationship. Fast-forward to 2024, Chijioke proposed to Kanyinsola in California, and she said yes! Now the lovebirds have said ‘I do’ in a glorious outdoor white wedding! Kanyinsola made an ethereal bride, and Chijioke came with his unmatched style. There’s so much love and warmth radiating in their beautiful wedding photos, and we wish them a blissful lifetime together. 😍

Our paths crossed in college (Howard University). We had a lot of common ground—same friends, similar extracurriculars, same on-campus fellowship/church. Naturally, we spent a lot of time around each other. The plot thickened from April 2020 to June 2021. Consistent with the age-old saying, absence did make our hearts grow fonder. The forced separation due to the pandemic made it clear to us that there was more to our relationship. We adapted quickly and leveraged technology to keep in touch despite being states apart. We officially started dating in July 2021.

The proposal came in July 2024. Jioke proposed at a beautiful vineyard in Napa Valley, CA. I tearfully said yes! I loved the ring, but the promise of forever was even better. We had a good turnout of friends and family to celebrate the occasion with us. After months of building up to it, we formally introduced each other to our families during the 2024 Christmas holidays. The warmth and acceptance from both sides made us realise we had found something special. From choosing venues to selecting our Aso Ebi colours, planning our wedding has been an adventure in itself. We’re learning to compromise, celebrate our cultural traditions, and focus on what truly matters: our love and commitment.
