Love, Family and Culture Took Centre Stage at Dolapo & Demola’s Introduction Ceremony

Hey guys! Have you ever attended a wedding introduction ceremony? If not, Dolapo and Demola are giving us front-row seats to theirs today!

As part of their journey to forever, they hosted their family and friends at a beautiful wedding introduction ceremony, marking an important milestone in their wedding festivities. Wedding introductions are a cherished part of many Nigerian wedding traditions. They provide an opportunity for both families to formally meet, connect, and celebrate the union of their loved ones.  For Dolapo and Demola, it was important to create an atmosphere that was warm, joyful, and intentional, ensuring that both families could come together in a memorable way.

From the carefully chosen outfits to the heartfelt moments shared throughout the day, every detail reflected the love and excitement surrounding their union. We caught up with Dolapo to learn more about the planning process and how it felt to celebrate this special milestone with the people closest to her heart. They also shared beautiful photos from the introduction ceremony, and each frame captures the warmth, love, and happiness that filled the day. 😍

See how the introduction happened below:

What was the planning process of your introduction like?

Planning the introduction was such a mix of excitement and challenge. My mum and I decided to plan the event ourselves and bring in an on-the-day coordinator rather than a full-service planner, so I was deeply involved in every detail from start to finish. I genuinely loved dreaming up ideas and bringing them to life, but as the guest list grew, it definitely became a little more overwhelming than I had anticipated. What started as a relatively intimate gathering quickly became something much bigger because I come from a large family.

We worked with Imani Events for décor and coordination, and honestly, she was incredible. She was patient, creative, flexible, and incredibly calm throughout the process. Working with someone so genuinely kind made such a difference and gave me so much reassurance in the lead-up to the day. She truly felt like a partner in bringing our vision to life.

What inspired your look for the introduction?

For my look, I wanted to feel radiant, colourful, feminine, and joyful. I knew quite early on that I didn’t want to wear the more conventional lace, so we decided to work with brocade instead, which I sourced from a boutique in London. The talented team at Made by YNK then transformed the top with the most beautiful beadwork.

As the creative director of a jewellery brand, Refaini, I have made it a personal goal to design all the jewellery I wear throughout this wedding season, so I had so much fun creating a piece that complemented the look. I was inspired by vintage glamour, floral motifs, and of course, coral accents as a nod to my Yoruba heritage.

The floral theme carried through almost every detail. My bag had to be a flower, and my gele also featured a floral-inspired design, which Gele by Tifex executed in just one attempt. My shoes incorporated the same teardrop detailing that appeared in my necklace, which helped bring the entire look together.

What stood out the most about the celebration?

It was the overwhelming feeling of love and joy. I had friends and family travel from different places just to be there, and I was genuinely touched that so many people would make the journey for what many might consider a relatively small event. It was also incredibly special getting to spend time with my fiancé’s family and seeing our worlds come together in such a meaningful way.

I also loved seeing my friends in the Adire aso-ebi. They looked absolutely beautiful, and it was so rewarding to watch all the colours, textures, and details of the day come together exactly as I had imagined.
