The end of one chapter can birth the beginning of something even more beautiful. Modupe had attended her graduation ceremony ready to close one chapter and begin another, but little did she know that the beginning of this new phase would find her right at her seat.

With a little help from fate, Emeke happened to be seated beside her, and what started as their first conversation felt as though they had known each other forever. They kept in touch even after the ceremony, and through a series of exchanged DMs and conversations, their connection gradually blossomed into something more than friendship… a love that was truly meant to be.

Then, on their second anniversary, Emeke decided to celebrate their journey with a sweet surprise. He planned a proposal that left Modupe completely stunned. With everything carefully arranged, he went down on one knee and asked her to marry him. And of course, she said yes!

Our love story began in the most unexpected of places: at our Master’s degree graduation ceremony. Although Emeke had completed his degree the previous year, his graduation ceremony had been postponed due to the pandemic. He returned the following year to celebrate with my graduating class, and we ended up sitting next to each other. We started talking during the ceremony and found that the conversation flowed effortlessly. It was almost as though we had known each other for much longer.

Before the celebrations ended, we exchanged Instagram usernames and took a few photos together. They are simple memories from what we thought was just graduation day. Neither of us knew that those photos would mark the start of something so special. What started with an unexpected seat, an easy conversation, and an Instagram exchange gradually blossomed into a beautiful life together, filled with friendship and love. For us, graduation marked the end of one chapter and the beginning of our forever.

Here’s how Emeke popped the Question:

It was our second anniversary, and Emeke told me that he had planned a surprise. However, as anyone who knows me will tell you, I can be very curious, so I kept asking questions. What were we doing? Where were we going? Most importantly, what should I wear? He repeatedly told me not to worry, saying that everything had been taken care of. My birthday had been only a few weeks earlier, and Emeke had spoilt me rotten with several thoughtful gifts. Among them was a special box containing instructions not to open it until our anniversary. This made me even more curious. After all my questions, he eventually gave in and sent me a list of restaurants to choose from for our anniversary dinner. I selected one, convinced that I had finally figured out his plans. On the morning of our anniversary, I opened the mystery box and found a beautiful dress to wear that evening.

Emeke arrived to pick me up later, and I genuinely believed we were heading to the restaurant I had chosen. Lo and behold, instead of a restaurant, he took me to a private space he had rented in Fulham, London. When I walked in, the room was beautifully decorated, filled with some of our closest family and friends who had all managed to keep the surprise from me. Emeke handed me a beautiful bouquet of flowers and asked me to marry him. It was a thoughtful, intimate proposal filled with so much love. Having the people closest to us there to witness such a special moment made it even more memorable, and despite all my questions and attempts to uncover his plans, Emeke still managed to surprise me completely. It was the loveliest way to celebrate two years together and begin the next chapter of our lives together.
