Demilade & Kayode’s University Friendship Found Its Way to Forever

You can never really tell the time or way love can show up, but when it does, it often leaves a beautiful mark on your heart. Demilade and Kayode happened to attend the same university, but little did they know that their paths were about to lead them to something special.

As fate would have it, they also happened to be members of the same group, where their first interaction sparked a sweet connection. With a little tease here and a little check-in call there, Kayode was able to get Demilade’s attention and eventually steal her heart. Now, they are choosing the forever route as they tie the knot in a beautiful Yoruba traditional wedding. They showed up looking absolutely regal, serving culture, style and undeniable chemistry. From their stunning looks to the joy that filled the celebration, Demilade and Kayode gave us a traditional wedding was such a beautiful display of love and culture.

Their love story as shared by Demilade:

If someone had told me that a random comment in a finance club group chat would eventually lead me to my husband, I probably wouldn’t have believed them. Samuel and I were both members of TIS (The Investment Society) in UNILAG, and the first time we ever interacted was during an online game he was hosting. I made a comment, and he jokingly replied, “Who’s this Demilade without a crown?” I honestly didn’t think much of it at the time, but I definitely kept him in mind. We met properly a few weeks later at our end-of-year TIS party. I finally put a face to the name of the boy who had shaded me in the group chat and just laughed about it. When I got back to school after the party, he texted to make sure I had gotten home safely.

We went home for the Christmas break shortly after that and didn’t really speak again until school resumed in January. And then, somehow, we just started talking. We went from barely knowing each other to talking every single day, often until really late at night. There was so much teasing and laughter. I would always tease him about being an old man, and he would send me pictures to prove that he was actually young while simultaneously reminding me that he was a better cook than me and sending me old cooking videos of himself that he had posted online. I initially tried to hold back because I was coming out of a heartbreak, but Samuel was very patient with me. He was always there with reassurance, and I think that was one of the first things that made me see him differently.

Very early on, I realised that beyond the fact that I thought “this boy is fine sha”, there was something about his personality that I really loved. Samuel is incredibly calm. He thinks things through before making decisions, and somehow, even now, he remains my calm because I can be very loud, dramatic and a little crazy. He has also never been tired of me. Even when I annoy him, and he says, “I won’t do this anymore”, the next minute he’s already helping me anyway. That has always been one of the
ways I’ve known how deeply he loves me.
Over the four years we spent together, we grew through so many different seasons. We became best friends, partners, each other’s biggest support systems and, eventually, husband and wife. Looking back, I don’t think our love story was built around one grand romantic moment. It was built in the little things, the late-night conversations, the teasing, the reassurance, helping each other, laughing together, showing up for each other and choosing each other over and over again.
I’ll choose Samuel because he completes me. He is my calm, my best friend, my safe place and now, my husband.
