Who says love has to arrive with grand gestures? Sometimes, all it takes is a simple DM, a little reassurance from your best friend, and a willingness to reply. đ
For Choice, an Instagram message from Funsho came at a time when she wasn’t looking to get to know anyone new. But one conversation turned into daily conversations, and before they knew it, they were writing a love story neither of them saw coming. Now, as they embark on their forever journey, they are letting us in on the magic with a pre-wedding shoot that’s impossible to look away from. From the elegant black-tie looks to their regal Igbo traditional outfits, every frame is simply captivating.

Their love story as shared by Choice:
Itâs funny how the smallest moments often become the ones that rewrite your life. My journey to forever began with a simple Instagram DM, ordinary enough to be ignored or forgotten. Yet, those few words and a polite greeting became the first page of a story that unfolded in ways neither of us could have imagined. They quietly marked the beginning of something extraordinary.
Funsho and I had mutuals on Instagram, and eventually he followed me and reached out. At that point in my life, I genuinely didnât have the energy for unnecessary conversations or getting to know someone new. So, when I noticed that he and my best friend followed each other, I immediately messaged her to ask how she knew him and, more importantly, to confirm he wasnât a complete weirdo. Once I got the assurance I needed, I replied to his message. That one reply became the beginning of something neither of us saw coming. We started talking in February 2025, and from that day until now, we havenât gone a single day without speaking.
Life was in a bit of a transition for me then. I had just moved to the UK, completed my nursing exams, and was navigating the exhausting process of job hunting. I was also quietly finding my way through the end of one chapter while trying to embrace the beginning of another. It wasnât the easiest season of my life, but somehow, he arrived at exactly the right time. What stood out about Funsho from the very beginning was his kindness. He was gentle, soft-spoken, and incredibly patient. You know how some men feel the need to constantly prove their masculinity? Funsho never did.
His masculinity was evident in his gentleness. There was a quiet confidence about him that didnât need to announce itself. He was calm, intentional, and remarkably patient with me as I tried to find my footing in a new country and a new phase of life. Almost effortlessly, he became my safe space. A kind face. A warm smile. Someone who made even the most ordinary conversations feel like home. And, of course, it didnât hurt that he was an incredibly handsome man.
After weeks of talking, we decided it was finally time to meet. The only challenge was the distance. I was in Nottingham, and he was in Cardiff, Wales. So we did what made the most sense. We agreed to meet halfway, at Birmingham Bullring, where our online conversations would finally become real. True to Funshoâs nature, he had planned the entire day down to the smallest detail. There was an itinerary waiting for us. We went from a restaurant to the arcade, then bowling, wandered through an art museum, found ourselves back at another restaurant, and somehow squeezed in even more before the day was over. Looking back, I donât think it was the places that made the day memorable. It was how effortlessly we existed in each otherâs company.
We talked the entire time. Well⊠I talked to him and interrogated him.
I asked question after question, probably enough to qualify as an interview. But one thing previous relationships had taught me was clarity. They had shown me exactly what I wanted in a partner and, perhaps even more importantly, what I didnât. So I wasnât interested in surface-level conversations. I wanted to understand how he thought, what shaped him, what he valued, and who he was when no one was watching.
With every answer, I found myself becoming more impressed. We shared remarkably similar perspectives on life, the same light-hearted, bubbly energy, and an ease that made conversation feel completely effortless. There was something incredibly genuine about him. I canât fully explain it, but I remember thinking that none of his answers felt rehearsed or crafted to impress me. They simply felt⊠true. What made it even more surprising was that, before that day, weâd never really had conversations about whether we were romantically compatible. We werenât checking boxes or discussing relationship expectations. We were simply getting to know each other as friends. Yet somehow, sitting across from him that day, everything seemed to fall into place without either of us forcing it.
Eventually, the day came to an end, and reality interrupted our little bubble. It had gotten late, and we both had to make our way back home- to Nottingham for me, Cardiff for him.
The moment I got home, I picked up my phone and messaged two of my closest friends.
âIâm going to marry Funsho.â
Then I asked them to star the message.
Why? I couldnât have given you a logical explanation if you had asked me that night. Weâd only just met in person. On paper, it made no sense. But somewhere deep within me was a certainty I couldnât ignore. It was quiet, unwavering, and unlike anything Iâd ever felt before.
For the first time in a very long time, it felt like I had found my person.
After that first date, we simply carried on as we always had. We talked every single day, as though nothing had changed, yet somehow everything had. There was a new sense of familiarity between us, one that neither of us needed to explain.
The following month, in March 2025, I had to travel back to Nigeria to sort out some visa matters before returning to the UK in May. The distance could easily have slowed things down, but somehow it did the opposite. Those months deepened what we already had. We grew closer with every conversation, every phone call, every shared moment across different countries. Before long, neither of us could deny that what was growing between us was something real and undeniable.

When I returned in May, Funsho did something that was so perfectly him. He asked me to be his girlfriend, with a cake.
Of course, I said yes.
And that was how our love story officially began.
One of the greatest gifts of loving Funsho is how easy love has felt. Not effortlessâbecause every relationship requires intention but peaceful. Steady. Safe. Day after day, he has shown me, not just with words but with consistent actions, how deeply I am loved, valued, and chosen.
At our core, we are simply two people who love each other wholeheartedly, learning how to navigate life side by side. There has never been a lingering doubt in either of our hearts about what we share. It has always felt genuine, certain, and true.
Then, in September 2025, he asked me to marry him.
Without hesitation, I said yes.
It remains the easiest decision I have ever made.

Looking back, I can see Jehovahâs hand guiding our journey every step of the way. In such a short time, weâve shared so many milestones, celebrated so many victories, and built a foundation that feels far bigger than the time weâve known each other would suggest. Sometimes I find myself wondering what a lifetime with him will look like if this is only the beginning.
One thing we often say to each other is that, even when weâre âMummy and Daddy,â weâll still just be two little kids who happen to be married. Boyfriend and girlfriend at heart.
That, more than anything, captures us.

Our love is full of laughter, inside jokes, endless conversations, hands that instinctively find each other, and eyes that rarely look away. Itâs playful, deeply affectionate, and wonderfully ordinary in all the ways that matter most.
We truly believe we made the best choice in choosing each other. More than anything, weâre grateful to Jehovah, the Originator of marriage, for blessing our journey. Even now, it still feels wonderfully surreal that I get to spend the rest of my life with my favourite person in the whole world.
