While the World Stood Still, Keji & Ibitoye’s Love Story Began

Sometimes, the best love stories aren’t the loudest ones. They are the ones that quietly blossom in the sweetest ways. For Keji and Ibitoye, while the world seemed to be standing still as a result of the pandemic, their love story was unfolding beautifully, as though they were in their own little orbit of love.

It all began when Keji’s cousin introduced her to a gentleman she believed would be the perfect match for her and as it turns out, she was absolutely right. They built their connection through countless texts and phone calls and even without being physically together, their bond continued to grow.

When the lockdown restrictions were eventually lifted, and they finally met in person, it felt as though they had known each other forever. Now, it’s all love in the air as they embark on their forever journey and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Their love story, as shared by Keji:

We met in 2020 during the lockdown. My cousin introduced us because she thought we’d get along, and thankfully, she was right! He made the first move, and we started talking almost every day. Since it was lockdown, we couldn’t meet in person, so we got to know each other through long phone calls and chats. Then Ramadan came around, so we had to wait a little longer before meeting. By the end of Ramadan, we’d already planned our first date, and when we finally met, it just felt right. There wasn’t any awkwardness; we were simply happy to finally meet after spending so much time talking.

Later in our relationship, there was a period when work became really busy for me, and for about three months, we hardly saw each other. We mostly kept in touch through phone calls, but that season reminded us how important communication and consistency are. What I love the most about him is His kindness. He’s genuinely kind, thoughtful, and always makes me feel supported. That’s one of the things I admire most about him.

Their love story, as shared by Ibitoye:
It wasn’t one big moment. It happened over time. I realised she consistently brought me peace, supported me through difficult times, and made me want to be a better person. One day, it just hit me that I couldn’t imagine building my future with anyone else. I love how kind and caring she is. She always puts others first, but she also knows how to make me feel supported and valued. She makes me laugh, challenges me to be a better person, and I feel completely comfortable being myself with her.

Here’s how Ibitoye popped the question:

He proposed during the dinner celebrating my MSc graduation, and I honestly didn’t see it coming. The funny part is that he excused himself to use the bathroom, and one of his friends went with him. I even teased them, saying, “Why are you both going to the bathroom?” We all laughed, and I didn’t think anything of it. I got distracted chatting with my friends and didn’t even notice that the music had changed. Looking back, it’s funny because I’m usually very observant, so I thought I would have figured out if something was going on. But he planned everything so well with our friends that I was completely surprised.

The next thing I knew, he was on one knee asking me to marry him. I didn’t cry, I was just in complete shock! It felt so unreal, and having our friends there to witness the moment made it even more special. Looking back now, we’re so grateful for how everything unfolded. What started with a simple introduction during lockdown turned into a friendship, then a relationship, and now a marriage. We truly believe God’s timing couldn’t have been more perfect, and keeping God at the centre of our relationship is the foundation of our marriage.
