Pelumi and Olumide’s Paths Didn’t Cross at University, But Love Found a Way Through a DM

Not every love story happens straightforwardly. Sometimes, the twists and turns along the way create a plot that makes the ending even more beautiful. And for Pelumi and Olumide, the plot to their love story began long before they even met.

They attended the same university and, all through their years there, they never got the chance to cross paths. But as fate would have it, their paths eventually crossed on social media. And while Olumide didn’t exactly get the green light after his first DM, he wasn’t quite ready to give up. He decided to shoot his shot one more time, and thankfully, the second time was the charm! Now, from a missed connection at university to a love story that began on Instagram, Pelumi and Olumide are set to spend the rest of their lives together. Talk about timing, persistence and a little bit of fate! Their pre-wedding shoot are all shades of beautiful and we can’t get over how cute they look together!

We met in the most unconventional way possible… Snapchat. We both attended OAU, yet somehow, we never crossed paths. At the time, I was serving in Lagos, while she was in Ife. I had been seeing her posts for a while. I made a quiet mental note of how beautiful she was. Every time she posted, I’d find myself watching her videos over and over again. She was that captivating.
But I never said a word… until one day.
She posted a birthday picture, and I finally reached out:
“Is it your birthday, today?”
She read it, and I was excited… until her reply came:
“You can clearly see that it was a month ago.”

That response took the excitement away just as fast as it came. I paused, debating whether to ignore it or speak up. Eventually, I replied: “That’s quite rude, you know… but it’s cool.”
I wasn’t expecting anything back, but she apologised. She explained that she assumed I had seen the caption indicating it was posted a month earlier. I told her it was fine and that was that. I went back to being a silent admirer.
Months later, I saw a video on her story; she winked. So I replied: “This your wink sha…”
She sent a video back, winking again:
“This wink?”

I won’t lie, that moment shifted everything. It felt like a green light. Completely different from our first interaction. And as a sharp guy, I didn’t waste the opportunity. I kept the conversation going… and this time, the energy matched. From there, everything flowed naturally. We started talking every day, then every night. Conversations about life, values, God. I got to know her, layer by layer, and I loved everything.
I remember the first time I heard her voice; soft, calm… it rested on me like ice. I’ve never been much of a caller; I prefer texts. But with her, I looked forward to every form of communication; voice notes, calls, FaceTime, everything. At some point, I just knew. She was my person. When we finally met in person in November 2023, I had already made up my mind that I was going to give her my very best. She wanted to take things slow, but I was already in love. And now… the rest is history.
