For Romeo, what started as an unplanned stop at Imisi’s karaoke hangout with a friend turned out to be the moment his forever began. It was as though fate had saved the seat beside him just for her. The moment they struck up a conversation, they clicked instantly, and that connection didn’t end when the karaoke night was over. It led them to a romantic proposal in Cuba, and now, it’s leading them down the aisle! As they prepare to exchange vows, they are blessing us with so much beauty from their pre-wedding shoot, and we just can’t get enough! We met in our last year of university, both working and living on campus over the summer. I had made a lot of friends who were also on campus that summer and felt that people were siloed; I planned a karaoke night at a local restaurant and invited everyone I could think of. I invited a mutual friend of Romeo’s, and I didn’t know my friend needed a ride to the restaurant. My friend convinced Romeo to drop him off (at the time they were co-workers). My friend asked me if his coworker could join us, and I agreed.

At the restaurant, I was making sure everyone was enjoying themselves; by the time things were settled and I could sit down, the only seat left was next to Romeo. I actually tried to get people to move because I didn’t know Romeo, but no one would shift. I eventually sat next to him, and we ended up chatting all night; the rest was history. We’ve evolved with one another through different professions, through grief, and through love.

We clicked instantly. After we met, Romeo would ride his bike to see me twice a week to talk, study, and hang out. That consistently never stopped, and our relationship blossomed from there. Through our relationship, we have been each other’s anchors, a love rooted in Christ. We’ve also grown up with each other, travelled together, and feel honoured to be each other’s soulmates.

Here’s how Romeo popped the question:

The proposal was magical. Romeo had been asking me where I wanted to travel for my birthday. I chose Cuba because it had always been on my bucket list, and I wanted to experience the people and culture. I didn’t realise that he was pressuring me to pick a place so he could start planning a proposal there. I found out later that it took him 6 months to plan the proposal! While we were in Cuba, I joked that I would never want him to propose on my birthday- unbeknownst to me, he was proposing the day after! He set up a classic-car ride and a photoshoot and told me that our final shots would be in the studio.

I walked into the studio, and my jaw dropped when I saw pink flowers everywhere and heard the violin playing. It was intimate and romantic. The proposal planner even told me that he stressed her out so it would be perfect and intentional! Our relationship has been built on that same consistency ever since — anchored in each other, and rooted in Christ. We’ve grown up together, and I don’t take for granted that I get to call him my soulmate.
